Lucas Soumille

Traditional Japanese

Lucas Soumille’s journey into tattooing began with a fascination — at a young age, he discovered that his father had inked his own tattoos with a sewing needle. At that age, Lucas thought it a bit crazy. Yet, a few years later, he’d find himself tattooing his own leg, displaying the same DIY tendencies while armed with nothing but meagre internet advice. After a stint at art/design school — which helped sharpen his skills as a painter — and a few unsuccessful attempts to find an apprenticeship, he landed a job at Mickey Tattoo in the south of France. This changed everything. The knowledge pool was right there, supercharging his hunger and dedication to mastering the craft. A decade and a half later, Lucas is now a superstar, recognized for both his acuity with the Japanese style and his personal overhauling of its matrix. Finding endless inspiration in Ukiyo-e art, he adds to the genre by infusing his pieces with energetic narratives full of graphic dynamism and wonder. You can find him working Yōkai characters into contemporary stories any day, whether he is holding a paintbrush or a tattoo gun.
