YingTing Wu

Botanical work

For YingTing Wu, tattooing is all about the return — embracing what grounds her, attuning the meditative cadence of creation. Her early days saw her practising the traditional art of Chinese painting, which she eventually set aside in favor of a master’s in Cognition and Communication and a career in PR and marketing. Yet, the pull to something more tactile and intimate kept echoing. Throwing all caution to the wind, she switched her life around to take an apprenticeship at the famous Dropout tattoo studio in Copenhagen. And the risk paid off. Her technical prowess surfaced real quick. It became clear that this was no new beginning but rather a homecoming — a blossoming of her original language. Soon, she was solidifying her own voice, reining in control and clarity, with a sort of whispering precision. Today, she’s a fully fledged master of her style. One glance at her pieces and you get it: her ink work feels ultra soft and somehow hyper-deliberate. Perhaps, there’s no need to say more than what follows about YingTing’s work: rather than tattooed, her botanical and natural compositions seem cultivated onto skin.
